Oh Happy Day! We got Internet and phone service yesterday!!! Life is good. I don't ever want to go 12 days without Internet service again! That was REALLY hard! Since our last posting, we finished more on our "to do" list. Changed car insurance from CA to AZ. Started an account at the AZ credit union. Sheez...there is so much to do! We went to the Unity of Flagstaff church. We also went to the one night showing of People vs. The State of Illusion. While there, we re-connected with people from the spiritual community we used to go to here! They were happy to see us and find out that we have realized our dream and moved here....so more connections have been made.
Steve and I went to the County offices the other day to have our house plans looked at...mostly to see what they needed before we make a final submittal. We were delighted with the results. The plan checker was so friendly. He looked at what we had, made suggestions...even wrote them on our plans...and said he was looking forward to seeing our project come through their office! All in one hour! THAT WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED IN SAN DIEGO!!!!! So we will be contacting our architect/engineer to make changes and move forward. I need to post pictures but have not had time to figure out how to do that so please be patient! They will show up soon! We are both still trying to wrap our mind around the fact that we are actually living here permanently...finally. With moving twice in the last 3 months....it's a mental vertigo, as a dear friend pointed out....such true words, Mary! Thanks for identifying it for me!! Wow...what an incredible 2 days it has been....we're exhausted and can only imagine how exhausted the MOVERS are!!! We started the process yesterday at 8:45 AM. Movers came and loaded up everything from our apartment and garage AND the storage unit. Then they took off for the drive to Flagstaff. Steve and I took off, too; Steve in his truck and me in the Acura. We finally got on the road around 1:30 PM California time. We pulled into Flagstaff at 10:30 PM, Arizona time. We were pooped and I was especially unraveled as I am not good at night driving and had to drive for 3 hours in the dark....my knuckles were clenched to the steering wheel! I was so glad when we finally arrived!
Then, today! Let me start by saying it was -9 this morning! Steve and I really know what "freezing cold" means now....no amount of clothing can get you ready for that kind of cold! So, we drove out to the rental house only to find out there was no heat and no water! It was so cold in the house you could see your breath! Steve started a fire but the flue was not opened and we smoked up the place...so as cold as it was, we had to open the windows to air out the smoke! Then the drivers were lost in action (well, not really) but they spent the night in Happy Valley so had to drive 2 hours this morning to reach us! So, they started to unload the truck...Steve managed to call the property manager and she had the owner of the house call us. There was a near-by neighbor who could help us get the heater started and now we know Dave and his wife Judy! The heater got started. Oh happy day! We had opened the flue and also had a roaring fire for the guys to warm their hands....I forgot to mention it was -6 at the house! I guess it finally warmed up to about 25 during the day but since we were inside, we didn't know that...and with them moving in the boxes and furniture, the doors had to stay open so even with the heater running, it took a while for the house to warm up! They did a fabulous job. Happy guys, nothing phased them...The were driving back to San Diego and then had another job to deliver tomorrow in Phoenix! I have no idea when they are supposed to sleep. So, we in the hotel again tonight and will hopefully start living in the house tomorrow!! A plummer has been called and will come out tomorrow to figure out the water situation. Water was left in the tank of one of the toilets, was completely frozen and cracked the tank in half. Steve had to undo the tank and put the whole thing in the bathtub for it to defrost so it wouldn't flood when it thawed out....now you know how cold it was in the house; and you thought I was exaggerating... So our adventure begins....a rocky start for sure but what would life be without adventure! We are tired but very happy. I'll send pictures as soon as we are a bit more settled. You won't believe the color schemes....OMG! Let me just tell you about the "worst" room. The dining room. It has one red wall and three yellow walls. It has green floor molding (and I mean GREEN!). It has a brown door to the garage. The curtains are red. Mike, one of the movers said it reminded him of going to McDonalds!! That is your sneak preview....more later. Miss everyone. Keep in touch and keep checking to see if I have added anything new! Well, here we are. Another brand new year. But this year is different. It is brand new in many ways. Mostly, new beginnings.
We are both retired. Steve retired on Friday, January 4th. We have secured a moving company to move all of our belongings to Flagstaff. Our move date is Friday, January 11th. The moving truck heads out and Steve heads out in his truck and I head out in the Acura. Flagstaff bound. We found a house to rent while we finish our plans to build and wait for spring time to commence construction. The house is three bedroom, two bath, 1500 square feet and has an attached 2-car garage. It was built in 1976 so it has some odd features but we can live with it because....it looks directly at our empty lot where we will be building!! Yes, we will be able to watch the construction of our dream house from the rental house! Spirit has directed this most certainly....more than I could have ever visioned. And we know I was visioning!! TYG! More will be posted once the move is complete and we start to settle in yet another temporary home. Meanwhile, I have great comfort knowing that we are being gently held in Spirit's hands. And so it is! |
