This is a bit of a story....Steve and I have been trying to figure out how to put shades on the great room windows without destroying the day time view. At night, without shades, we feel like we are living in a fish bowl. Granted, our neighbors aren't that close, but it has been a lack of privacy we didn't like too much. So, we discussed it with a couple of shade companies but no one had a good solution. Well, Steve (always one to attack a challenge) came up with a way to have shades on our big "peaked" picture windows (the large top windows) without destroying our daytime view by having a rod to hold the shades. We had "L-brackets" with magnets installed. The magnets attached to the top of the shade. You pull the shades up from the bottom and they attach to the magnets on the L brackets. Then, during the day, the shades are lowered and just sit at the bottom of the window. The three lower awning windows have regular shades that pull down from the top. The company that installed the shades have never done anything like this; this surprised us. Since so many large homes have "view" windows...it seems a shame to taint the view with a rod to hang curtains or shades. I think Steve came up with an ingenious idea. Maybe we should patent it????
